It can be difficult to get moving in the morning. Sometimes you’ve got a busy day ahead that you’re struggling to motivate yourself for, other times you just find yourself in a mood that doesn’t encourage a whole lot of positivity. How you start your day can make a big difference to the shape that the remaining hours take, but sometimes it can be easier to go with the direction your mood is taking you rather than taking a more positive approach.
There won’t be one single answer that works for everyone, but instead, elements that different people integrate into their own unique morning routine. Understanding that this is subjective might shed the frustration of copying another person’s routine one for one and feeling as though it isn’t working.
Finding Your Energy
The hard part can be getting to a point where you feel energised or motivated enough to tackle the challenges of the day, and this is something that many people struggle with. The trick might lie in finding what makes you feel more ready to be active and take charge of your day, and the source of this energy is going to lie in different places depending on your preference.
You might want to buy some fairtrade coffee online, getting your energy from a high quality and sustainable version of something that can potentially carry a more positive effect than cheaper alternatives. Or perhaps you want to focus attention on your breakfast, and how the first thing you eat in the day can make a big difference to how you feel going forward. Of course, you might want something quick and easy, but taking your own health and wellbeing for the rest of the day into account might lead you to a different option.
Getting Moving
If you work from home, or perhaps have a schedule that doesn’t require you to get up first thing in order to get to work on time to begin with, you might struggle with actually getting moving in the first place. This is a problem that can be exacerbated during colder times of the year, and even more so if you’re someone who struggles with certain mental health issues, such as depression. In the instances of the latter, it might not be so easy such as willing yourself to get going, although generally you might find assistance such as in the form of vitamin D tablets to make a difference.
However, sometimes getting up is the hardest part. Once you force yourself into the routine of your morning, such as showering, eating breakfast, brushing your teeth, or whatever you normally do, you might find that the flow begins to feel somewhat natural. Getting up as quickly as possible though, can help to start you off on the right foot.
Planning Your Exercise
If you’re someone who wakes up and immediately needs to drive to work where you sit down for the remainder of the day, you might find that you’re suffering overall from a lack of exercise in your schedule. This can be hard to remedy, especially with such a busy lifestyle, but knowing when you’re going to exercise, doing so, and feeling the improvement that this provides your life with, might start to make your mornings easier.
Alternatively, once again, if you’re someone who works from home or in a non-traditional pattern, you might want to use the opportunity of the morning to get moving right away. Perhaps an early walk or run before you shower can help you to get in the right frame of mind for the rest of the day. In the case of a walk, you can even do it to knock out one of your chores early, such as the big supermarket shop.
